Taking the "NO" out of Winona
We’ve been hearing “No” way too often from our city council and it’s doing our community no earthly good.
So what has the council said “No” to?
Well, let’s start with $1.9 million federal dollars that would have resurfaced two miles of Broadway – all the way from Mankato Avenue to Sioux Street. Thanks to that, we get to cough up the cost right out of Winona taxpayer’s pockets – the street still has to be fixed…
How about saying “No” to the police Alternative Response Team? Trained professionals that would aid licensed peace officers responding to situations involving family situations, mental illness and other human emergencies that are not necessarily criminal in nature and would enhance the effectiveness of our police department and the safety and well being of our community. They said no to that…
Speaking of police, they chose to cut an investigator as well … an odd take on “just say no.”
And they’ve said “no” to our community’s arts and culture coordinator, recreation coordinator, economic development specialist and other professional staff positions that are critical in developing and nurturing the public/private partnerships that move our community forward and make it a more vibrant, more desirable place to live, work and play.
So what do we get when we take the “no” out of “Winona?” We get to be “Wina”s!
(Ouch!)
It’s easy to say “No.” It’s hard to find ways to do what ought to be, what needs to be done.
We should do better. Together, we can do better. Vote Christenson for council.
