We can do better for our kids
Hi kids! Let’s play!
Oh yeah – this in the picture? It’s the public playground for kid’s living west of Huff Street and south of Sarnia… It’s behind what used to be the West End Rec … the city leases the building to a private skate park now… Just up the block from the Aquatic Center … there’s playground equipment there too, but it’s behind a fence and the pool’s only open during the summer a few hours a day – and besides, you’ve gotta pay to get in. Tough luck if your family’s on a tight budget…
Look, our kid’s shouldn’t have to pay to have places to play … and those places should be convenient to their homes … in every neighborhood.
Folks have been celebrating “saving” the East End Rec … well, that so-called victory leaves us exactly where we were – with inadequate public recreation facilities and programing for our kids, our retired folks, and pretty much everybody in between.
We should do better. Together, we can do better.
For a good time, vote Christenson for City Council.
I’m Jerome Christenson, and I gladly approved this message.
